People often struggle with questions of origin, purpose, and destiny. These are fundamental questions that shape how we live and what we believe.
Three key questions:
1. “Where am I from?”
People often wonder, “Where did I come from? What is the source of my life?” These questions speak to a deep longing for meaning and identity. In a world full of uncertainty, the answer to these questions is crucial for understanding our worth and purpose.
The Bible provides a clear answer in Genesis 1:27: “So God created mankind in His own image, in the image of God He created them; male and female He created them.” This profound truth reveals that we are not the result of random chance or impersonal forces. Instead, we are deliberately and lovingly created by God Himself, made in His very image.
To be created in God’s image means that we reflect aspects of His character—such as creativity, reason, love, and the capacity for relationship. It also means that each person, regardless of background or status, is inherently valuable and worthy of dignity. You are not an accident. You have been designed by the Creator with intention and care.
Furthermore, this truth speaks to our unique purpose. God has given each person a calling, a role in His creation, to live out in a way that reflects His image and brings glory to Him. Your life is not aimless. It is part of a grand design, and you have a unique purpose in God’s story.
So, when you ask, “Where am I from?” the answer is simple yet profound: You are from God. You were created by Him, in His image, with a unique purpose and value. Your life has meaning because it originates from the very heart of the Creator.
2. “Why am I here?” (Purpose in life)
People often ask, “What is the meaning of life? Why am I here on earth?”
The Bible teaches that humans are created to reflect God’s glory in all they do (1 Corinthians 10:31) and to find deep joy and satisfaction in their relationship with Him (Psalm 16:11). Glorifying God involves worship, obedience, love, and living in a way that points others to Him. Enjoying God means delighting in His presence, trusting in His goodness, and growing in communion with Him.
Jesus summarized the central teaching of the entire Bible in Matthew 22:37–39: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind… Love your neighbor as yourself.”
In other words, the core of the Christian life is to love God, reflect His love to others, and walk in the unique path He has prepared for you. Through Christ, this purpose becomes clear and life-giving: to glorify God and enjoy Him in every part of your life.
3. “Where am I going?” (Future after death)
Many people live with uncertainty about the future, often wondering, “What happens after I die?” This question stirs up fear, hope, and curiosity. The reality is, while no one can predict the future, God has revealed in His Word what lies ahead for those who trust in Him.
In John 14:2-3, Jesus offers comfort and assurance: “My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me, that you also may be where I am.” Jesus assures us that death is not the end; it is merely a transition to something far greater—the eternal life He promises with God.
John 3:16 affirms this promise: “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Through Christ, we are not only promised an eternal home but also the path to peace, security, and joy—both in this life and the next.
In John 14:6, Jesus clarifies further: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” Jesus is the way to eternal life and the gateway to God’s presence. Through Him, we gain access to the fullness of God’s promises.
For those who trust in Jesus, the future beyond death is not something to fear. It is the beginning of a new chapter—an eternity spent in God’s presence. The promise of eternal life in heaven is secure for those who believe in Christ, follow His teachings, and receive His grace.
So, when we ask, “Where am I going?” the answer is clear and full of hope: For the believer in Christ, death is not the end. It is the beginning of eternal life with God. Our future is secure, not because of anything we have done, but because of what Christ has done for us.
